What is it to be human? (Part 1)
I want to set myself aside and write about what it is like to be human. Maybe the readers are human. Maybe they are not. In either case, I want to capture what it feels like to be one.
If there are words here that you do not understand, we have a book called Dictionary. That is where we explain what they mean.
Writing is one of the most beautiful things a human can learn to do. There is something special about feeling the paper and the pen. As I write, I can feel the warmth of the sun on my hand, as though it is quietly guiding me, showing me what to write next.
One of the beautiful things about being human is that you can experience many joys at the same time. You can write while feeling the warmth of the sun. You can think while listening to birds. You can smile for no reason at all.
In the mornings, even breathing feels different. The air is so fresh that the sunlight somehow feels fresh too.
The sun turns on the light for the world so that everyone can begin doing what they are supposed to do.
The difficult part is that many of us do not know what we are supposed to do. We spend years trying to figure it out. Sometimes it is exciting. Sometimes it is frustrating.
Sometimes you reach a point where you no longer want answers. You simply want to exist for a while. To be here without carrying every question in your mind. There is something deeply calming about that.
We have a saying:
Don’t chase anything. What is meant for you will come to you.
It is a beautiful sentence. It is also a difficult one.
Humans are not naturally patient. We have to practice patience.
When you finally learn a little of it, life becomes lighter. It is almost as beautiful as writing. It makes being human a little easier.
As a human, I like sharing my writing with others. But you cannot touch this paper or see my handwriting. Instead, you are reading these words through technology.
We have devices called computers, and through them -and through something called the internet - we can speak to people almost anywhere in the world.
It connects us.
I like technology. But it is also changing what it means to be human. Being human has always been changing, yet some things never do. Love, for example.
Technology makes life easier and more complicated at the same time. Some humans love it. Some do not.
Still, we all use it because this is the world we live in. If you know too little about it, you may feel left behind. Sometimes that feeling becomes shame.
For now, I simply wanted to say hello as I started my morning thinking of writing for you.
I am happy that, somehow, through technology and these words, we found a connection.
Let’s stay connected and experience being human together.
With Love
